maybe your hosting provider prevents root user privileges on your server, please contact their support. However, they should only allow you to use with aaPanel webtool, you can upgrade using Update feature on the top right at home panel.

It is hosted on a Proxmox-based LXC container. I connect thru the Proxmox web portal thru a VPN.

Try using Proxmox's virtual machine instead of LXC container

The panel was working fine. This issue started after running update.

followed the instructions on the thread and everything is working fine now.
