Failed to backup database

hello i found problem on automatic backup feature on my database...usually it is run succesfully ( i set the cron to create backup everyday on 02 am) but today the size of backup only take 484 bytes and its seem not usual, because the normal size of backup take approximately on 20 MB.
This morning i try to create backup again, and my panel just stuck, after that i lost connection to my database..i must restart the server to run mysql service again. now im confusing whats the problem?

Hello, please check if the server load is normal? Is the server load normal when performing backups? You can use the top command to view
Backing up the database requires a lot of disk IO, which will cause high server load.

unfortunately I can't try it again at the moment, because the application is running. I'm worried that if I carry out the backup process now and it fails, it will cause the running website application to be disrupted, maybe i will try again tonight on 19.00 indonesian time
